The story of how a mysterious flower appearing in Rose City starts a young man down the path of poetry. Lakayana will be reading from his self-published debut poetry chapbook, a Rose and Grief, and sharing insights into how the project came to be. A Rose and Grief explores themes of loss, love, and race.

This event is dedicated to #ahmaudarbery and his family.
Lakayana Drury is a community organizer, educator, and poet from Madison, Wisconsin. He is the Executive Director of Word is Bond PDX, a nonprofit whose mission is to rewrite the narrative between Black boys and law enforcement.
