Join historian and ethnomusicologist Kelly Bosworth to learn about Vanport’s remarkable school music program and celebrate the educators who made it possible. Dr. Bosworth will present new research into the under-explored story of Vanport’s beloved junior high band teacher, Mrs. Ada Wood, in addition to highlighting the contributions of kindergarten teacher Mrs. Martha Jordan and Vanport Schools superintendent James Hamilton.

SPEAKER BIO: Kelly Bosworth serves as Visiting Horning Assistant Professor in Public History at Oregon State University and an arts/humanities curator at new Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Performing Arts (PRAx). She is a dual Ph.D. candidate in ethnomusicology and history at Indiana University. Her dissertation, The Music of Miracle City, is on the music/sound/noise of Vanport, Oregon, and the harmonies and dissonances of multiracial democracy.
